trans problems?
Just bough a 2000 a4 1.8t quattro manual, 92k miles, the owner told me the trans was slipping out of gear because it needed a shift linkage. I never got the car to slip once before or after installing the JHM solid link and stabilizer bushing but I don't have plates or insurance yet so I only took it around the side streets a couple times and never got in high rpms above 3rd gear. I don't have the money for a trans now so don't want to spend money to put it on the road if it needs a trans. Question is I noticed when changing the gears it isn't always smooth, sometimes there are two "clicks" going into any gear. Its not at the shifter because I noticed this pushing the rod in and out at the trans when the linkage was off. Does this mean there is definitely something wrong inside the trans or is it normal for a high mileage trans? Its not hard at all to change gears and is barely noticeable when shifting fast, it just makes the throws not as smooth. Thanks for any help
mine does the same thing, its normal. and you could get some linkage for dirt cheap at a junkyard, but i dont really see how that could co bad unless it got bend during a clutch job
ps. im at 181k haha. 90k is considered low miles on an audi

The rubber joint had a rip in it, but I still don't see how that could make the trans slip out of gear. Yea the junkyard could have been a possibility but the total for the JHM linkage and bushing was only $120 and its a pretty good upgrade, paired with a short shifter shifting is now pretty awesome.
The linkage wouldn't cause it to pop out of gear, that would be caused by the syncro.
Have you tried changing out the gear oil with a higher quality fluid? My guess is that the person that you bought it from never had it changed.
