Turbo and timing belt
 

I am looking for a new turbo for my '97 A4.

I found some on eBay. And I am a believer in "you get what you pay for". These eBay K04 turbos are "cheap", but I wanted to check here before I actually buy one.

What is your opinion on these?

Also, how difficult is it to change the timing belt?

TB isn't too bad, blauparts.com has a great kit with good instructions. You just need to take your time. I just did mine and it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be.

Ebay turbos are like playing roulette at the casino... there is no strategy involved, and it has the worst odds in the house. You might get lucky, but most likely you're just giving your money away...

I see the OEM turbo is a Borg-Warner. About $700.

What are some other "quality" options? And what are some decent vendors to buy from?

Check FAQ thread. In there somewhere are some good sites to buy stuff from. If you HAVE to replace the turbo, I would spend the extra couple hundred for the KO4 instead of the KO3. If you're just looking to upgrade, then the KO4 is a waste of money...

Stay away from those ebay turbos. They are grenades! Look in the classifieds here or on audizine. You can usually find great deals there too. And like Brad said, if you want an upgrade, a k04 is a waste. Are you automatic or manual?
