you are right, i went to another german auto shop, and yes it is the "chain tensioner"
now im worry about the repair, between $800, and $1,000,( I dont have that money)

The difference is the engine codes. 2001 cars have a AWM motor. The physical difference is that the AUG and AWM have variable valve timing and the AEB and ATW do not.

You will need the gasket set. As far as the tensioner itself, you may be better off looking for a used one off a low mileage motor.

You really need to find out why there is no oil flow.

 

Exactly, before replacing such an expensive part i would try seafoaming the living s*** out of the oil and pray to god that the oil pressure to the tensioner returns. I have seen it too many times. I would calculate that you have a 20% chance of getting the tensioner to stop chattering by using seafoam, but its worth a try.

Seafoam is a solvent commonly used for cleaning engines in both marine and land engine applications. What you need to do is grab a can of seafoam from Pep Boys or wherever and pour half a can (maybe more in your case) into the oil and let the engine run for about an hour, you could also take it for a little drive to try and increase the oil pressure but don't beat on it with seafoam in the crankcase because you could spin a main bearing or something. Once the hour is up change the oil and filter. Now go for about an hour drive and hope that the noise goes away. If it doesn't, then you need to get the tensioner.

 

2 or 3 consecutive seafoam applications/oil changes shouldn't hurt. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Yeah, same product, but that DIY is for the intake manifold treatment, not your problem. You don't need a DIY article to tell you how to pour half a can of seafoam into your oil. Pick it up at auto zone or advance, etc. It's about $8/can.
