Default Watered down gas!

Need help fast! I was down to 20 miles left of gas and couldn't make it to my normal gas station. So i stop at a the closest one and only put half a tank in. I pull out of the station and make it maybe a block and my car dies. With no warning so i assume that it was some bad gas. I had to coast my car into a parking lot. If it is watered gas what is the way to get the water out. Or boost the octane up to make it run again? Oh i forgot to mention its a 99 a4 Q

good thing is water and gas dont mix, water is heavier and sinks to the bottom. ive never heard of any gas station ever putting water in their gasoline. they wouldnt have customers for very long. unless you are in some third world country, i would bet money watered down gas isnt your problem.

It can happen...

I would take it in ASAP and find out exactly. So if by some chance it is water, you will have a case against the station. Just remember, its not the people behind the counters fault, but if they don't want to help it then becomes there fault .

i guess so. well then you have a few options. you can get a 1 gallon gas can and go back to the station and use the same pump and same grade of gas and fill up the can. go back home and dump the can into a clear glass container. if there is water in it, you will see it on the bottom.

or- you can get a few bottles of dry gas, HEET, and dump that in your tank. alcohol is miscible in water so if that helps, then you do have a tank of bad gas. i would siphon out the whole tank and then refill it with good stuff. keep what you siphon out as proof if there is water in it. contact the department of weights and measures, or the dept. of agriculture and file a complaint.

having water in there shouldnt really damage anything unless it freezes, but the car wont run until you get it out of there.

Default Update

Had to drop the tank to get all the water out. It was almost straight water. Green tea was 1000 times darker than what they pulled out of my tank. The shop pour some in a bottle and u could see right through it. Had to change the fuel filter and add a bottle of gas drier then fill the tank back up. It sputtered and spit out some white smoke for awhile in idle. But its running almost back to where she use to be. I got ahold of the gas stations district manager and he said that an O ring was loose. And the day before when we got 3 inches of rain it got in the tank. Sounded like a bunch of BS to me. But he contacted his insurance and they called me and got all my info. Now waiting fir the claims adjuster to call me back to pick up this $410 bill!
