i was wondering if anyone can help me out recently my cars heat has stoped workin its a 97 audi a4 quattro 1.8T.also the temp guage for the coolant has stoped working. but when the temp guage is working witch rarely happens the heat works. also when it sits in one spot and idles for a while the guage works there is heat but as soon as i move the car it stops working and the needle drops to Cold. what could this be thanks for the help.

 

Sounds like your thermostat is screwed. When was the last time the timing belt/waterpump/thermostat was changed? What temp does your oil get up to?

 

Could be a faulty temp sensor as well or just the wiring to the sensor is a bit loose or broken.

 

do you have a CEL by chance?

 

no cel its been running great the oil temp stoped working a long time ago.

 

More than likely the ECT is bad.
