What's that "Clunking" coming from the front end when you hit bumps?

Default What's that "Clunking" coming from the front end when you hit bumps?

I could swear it's the FR suspension, but I've replaced and double checked everything suspension related. I've also put a rag under the cabin air filter box, just in case it's hitting the firewall.

I have been hunting this damn thing down for a year now - and I just can't figure it out. It sounds like a bad ball joint in a control arm, but it's not.

Anyone experience this before?

Not sure if this is similar sound but I too had noise suddenly appear from the front end which I can’t really describe the sound. Mine got pretty bad within a few weeks to the point where even over small bumps you can really hear it. This problem with mine was in one of the control arms where the rubber bushing or poly or which you have sits. The bushing had the smallest amount of play which you couldn’t even see with the naked eye in it where it sits in the control arm. Give it a go and wiggle all you control arms to see if you can find any abnormal noises coming from one. Mine was the largest control arm which the noise was coming from.

What's funny is that I tore apart the entire front suspension and found one of my upper control arms to have that same problem. I replaced it and thought "Yes! Finally." - I took it for a test drive.......no change.

I had this issue and it turned out to be the sway bar end links.

I felt them for any play when trying to diagnose but didn't feel any but someone said it was most likely them anyway.

I was happy to replace them because they aren't too expensive and pretty easy to swap.

Thankfully they were exactly right.

Already done that. It's like the car is playing some practical joke on me.

Engine mounts. Though this post is old & i guess you know what is really was by now.

Check the spigot mount & if its shifted from normal its probably engine mount.

Hi guys, old post but just incase. I had this same problem, sounded like something pretty heavy. Turned out to be the front brake pads.... Try holding the brake pedal gently when going over bumps to see if the rattle stops, or wiggle the pads with a screwdriver
