Soaking them will help a little, but +1 for a good socket and a Breaker bar....and the mechanic broke 3 sockets? Don't go back there, lol. I don't think I have ever not been able to get a wheel off, and I have had studs spin in the hub.

But really, just take it to a not suck shop. With not suck mechanics who actually spend money on tools...

Kroil ftw. That stuff is awesome. Get it, soak the lugs, and with impact tools or a breaker bar, they WILL come off.

I don't know about that... I broke a 17mm Matco socket using a breaker bar. Funny thing is, I guess the matco loosened it cause a craftsman 17mm got it off!

Default old thread, new answers?

This is a super old thread but I have an audi 80 that has the same problem...except a breaker bar and pb blaster did nothing, broke many sockets, tried impacts, tried a 4 ft breaker bar my local shop borrowed me and it just twisted the bolt heads off, now im in big trouble. My brakes are to the metal and they just WONT budge

my mk1 is suffering similarly, its been parked up for over three years with alloys on and the bolts have welded themselves in. As above though, repeated doses of a penetrating oil + an impact gun is a good solution. Forcing it with a bar is a good route to a snapped bolt

Kroil and Impact FTW serisouly. If you cant get it, bring the car to a local heavy duty truck shop and have them go at it with a nice big 1' impact. If they can get semi lugs out im sure they can get shitty german wheel bolts out too.
