Check if you have boost leaks. A boost gauge is s good idea and you can make a boost leak tester. Search for boist leak tester on forums and you should be able to check how to make one.

Okay thanks. Right now I'm trying to decide which chip will be best. APR seems to be good, but I can't really tell how much a GIAC chip is from their site( or how to order one) and I heard Dahlback as well. There are so many different makes its a pain to figure out what's good. And no matter which one I go with I am gonig to have to send out my ECU and be carless for a few days right?

Most of the time you won't be able to buy that kind of thing directly from APR or GIAC, you've got to find a dealer. There will be a link someplace on their website that says "Find a Dealer" or some such. Upgraded DV, clutch, and a boost gauge should be enough for now. You'll most likely develop a boost leak at some point due to the higher boost pressure.

The only way to avoid mailing your ECU someplace is if you found a dealer within driving distance of you. Then you could physically take your car there, they could flash it, and you'd drive home.

Okay yeah I did that and found places in new Hampshire which isn't terribly far from me. Is there a way to prevent a boost leak? I feel that I already have some form of air leak since I have been hearing sounds that usually are air related.

Not really something you can completely prevent. There's a bunch of small boost/vac lines that will either leak or won't. You might wanna make a boost leak tester to find any leaks you already have before you get the chip. I would also move a boost gauge to the top 5 of your list of things to buy, they can be extremely helpful for identifying problems and troubleshooting.

Should I install the boost gauge prior to doing a boost leak test? Also, are there any gauges that I can get that A. Don't require power(I dont want to deal with wiring it) and B. Are under like $50 That aren't garbage? I don't see why a simple gauge would cost so much. Thanks.

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to separate this from my other post.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to which tut to use for making the tester? I can't find any for a B5 and just want to make sure I do it right.
Thanks

You're gonna have to deal with wiring one way or another, because you'll need to see the boost gauge at night. Best price I've seen for just the gauge is ECS Tuning. I have a boost leak tester you can borrow if you promise not to steal it lol.

Okay thanks. And really? That would be so nice. I don't want to fail hardcore at making one. Where do you live?

Edit: Nevermind, saw where you live. How much would it be to ship? If its like $20 it would be pointless somewhat.

Also, this is the DV right? I looked up the 710n and took the part number and found this listing for half the price of the listings I initially found.
