Will my 1.8t Borla Exhaust fit a 2.8 30v?
I just wrecked my 2000 1.8t 5speed quattro and took my borla catback exhaust off before the insurance company took it. Im thinking about buying a 98 2.8 30v 5speed quattro and was wondering if my borla exhaust will fit? Possible with modification if it doesnt bolt right on? Please let me know asap because this is a huge factor in if I buy the 2.8 or another 1.8t.

also what would put out more power. a 1.8t chipped with exhuast or a 2.8 chipped with exhaust?

A 30v 2.8 stock makes as much power as a chipped 1.8T with exhaust. You might be able to have an exhaust shop modify the exhaust to fit but I'm not sure. Doubt many of us have ever looked into this. Look up pics of exhausts for both cars and see how dissimilar they are - I imagine that'd be enough to tell you.
This really shouldn't be a factor though - you can sell the Borla and put the proceeds toward a custom exhaust for the 2.8 and probably have money left over. My exhaust cost me $330 total on my 2.8. |
You'll be better off selling it, the 2.8s have a separate pipe for each cylinder bank all the way up the the mid-muffler.

I would go with another 1.8. Just before really driving it, drop the oil pan and clean it out. Other than that, you can get much more power out of 1.8

Agreed that the potential of the 1.8T is much higher if you want to spend money.
