Winter without a skidplate...?
So guys, I haven't had a skid plate protecting my underbody/oilpan/engine for about a year now. I live in upstate New York so I have to deal with the Northeast weather. How bad is it to drive in the snow without a skidplate? I did some research, and people mentioned that it may wear out your belts faster, but haven't found a definitive answer. I want to make sure I don't cause serious damage. I am considering making a makeshift one and ziptying it because all the holes for the bolts ripped out.
yeah i would its a street sign that fold in the middle and its black and has the slippery when wet thing on it but it folds in haft so i can change my oil with out taking the whole thing down and its huge
but back on topic yeah i agree with Andrew

also - anyone with a panzer plate or other skid plate should chime in here...
do you have any dimensions i can use!!!??? i have full access to our metal forming lab (lathes, benders, drill presses, spot welders, etc etc) and have taken the class that teaches us how to use everything so thats not the difficult part
i just want to know what dimensions to use and how thick of sheet to grab from the back room

haha that street sign idea is awesome. I was wondering about access to oil changes but it's just something I'm/they are going to have to deal with. I was thinking a large sheet of aluminum or something from lowes and just clamping it in somehow.
