hardest part is getting at the bracket under the turbo that bolts to the block.

How many miles are on your A4? Which turbo did you buy?

it has 81k. and i bought the k03 turbo.i havent put it in yet because my mechanic gave me bad news while taking out old turbo he happened to check the oil and it was all milky.so i have a blown head gasket.hes gonna charge me $500 for the head gasket job not including the $250 he said will cost me to send it to a machine shop to have inspected and re-surfaced

Is he sure it is the head gasket because the 1.8t is not all that known for blowing head gaskets? There are other places the oil/coolant can mix, most of the time it is at the oil/coolant heat exchanger.

Did he do a compression test and leak down test to figure out if it was a blown head gasket?

sorry for the delayed reply.the car was misfiring and lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust.my mechanic just did the head gasket a few days ago and the head was fine, but he showed me where the gasket was screwed up.car ruuns great but now check engine light is on with code 0010-intake camshaft actuator/circuit open.what do you think that is because i cant find anything online.

He most likely forgot to plug the cam chain tensioner (VVT) back in when he put the head back on, it is at the back of the head.
