Default '04 Passenger Side Mirror Memory

On my '04 I have had an ongoing issue with the memory position for the passenger side mirror. I've attempted to reset it, even using a totally different button and yet after one or two good resets, it starts putting that mirror into what I would call the "reverse gear" mode, down and close, regardless of where the mirror switch is positioned. When my wife drives the car, which is 90% of the time, and she pushes her memory position, it apparently never malfunctions. BTW her position is #2 and I've used #1 and 3, although I don't see that being anything important. Generally the seat position and the drivers mirror position have been good. The dealer has been useless in even getting to understand the problem let alone attempt a repair, and the service managers have been rotating on a regular basis so I can't even get a rapport with one. Last visit they tried to tell me that it was "normal" and I needed to drive the car a few miles and it would go into the correct position!! I'm pushing the button with the car in the garage in neutral. No other vehicle I've ever owned needed to be driven a few miles for the passenger side mirror to "find its way". And naturally the dealer is an inconvenient distance away so just going back is a PITA.

If your wife gets it right, maybe you're doing something wrong... Just a thought. But a VAGcom tool will catch that, if it becomes worse, could be your memory button or your central convenience module. Difficult to tell.

No, I'm the one who set up the memory in the first place. It's a simple matter of selecting the correct button when I'm driving. I actually have two memory buttons set up for me since #1 was driving me nuts. I set things up in #3 as well. Of course after many attempts, curses, you name it, I again attempted to reset it about a week or two back and ever since then it "mostly" cooperates.

You're probably right about it being one or the other, but the dang dealer doesn't want to be bothered looking either. Many because the car is a "certified used"? Once the warranty expires I'm sure they'll be happy to find the problem and fix it, using MY money at a higher repair rate!

Yeah, I'm having the same issue, I'm thinking mine is probably operator error because I haven't bothered to read the manual thorougly. But if yours is the convenience module, that's a pricey one. Maybe the reverse switch is what's causing the mirror to do that, any chances the backup lights come on at the same time?
