Default 1.8T CVT + APR ECU vs 3.0 CVT

Hi,

I am considering buying a '03/'04 Audi A4 Convertible. I made accurate evaluations and the A4 1.8T would cost me $628 a month over 5 years (including insurance, gas, taxes, repairs, etc...) while the A4 3.0 would cost me $681 a month. Over 5 years, that is about $3180. Not that much really but I am trying to save right now (getting rid of my 335i). For $500, I can put an APR State 1 chip in the 1.8T that will bring it to 209hps. For a few hundreds more, I can even bring it up to 229hp.

I was wondering if anyone out there had the chance to test drive both the 3.0 CVT and the 1.8T CVT with an APR Stage1 ECU and give me some feedback.

thanks in advance!

Why waste your money on a CVT? They are one of the worst transmissions ever to be equipped on an audi, suffering countless problems.

I've got a 1.8 w/ the APR stage 1. All the power of the stock 6 but better gas mileage. I put the cold air intake and diverter valve also. A blast to drive...and I have the CVT transmission - knock on wood - no problems.
