Default 2 oddities.any ideas?

so i have a couple things i couldnt figure out, what do you guys think? car is a 2003 a4

the first issue is some pump underneath the car (has tubes feeding in and out of it) on the rear passenger side, kind of between the front of the back seat and the foot well. im not sure what it is, but its making a ton of noise and whining a bit. so-what is this thing? and what could be causing it to have this problem?

the second thing happened last night-on the headlight **** (dial?) all of the lights work EXCEPT the small indicator at the very top of the part you turn.it started intermittently going on and off every 10-15 seconds then just quit an hr later. is it the light that went bad?? its an LED as far as i know so that doesnt make much sense to me.

thanks for the advice!

The first thing sounds like the fuel filter. The second is the light. To fix you have to replace the switch.

just as an after thought, what could be causing the noise? my thinking (assuming it is the filter, which is original at 73k) is that its getting clogged the fuel would be forced through a smaller diameter opening, or something along those lines.

but the car is running fine, so im not sure about that.

Then it could be the pump making noise bc the filter is clogged.

just a bump-i got the filter replaced over the weekend and no more noise. so it was either a clog in the pump or lines (also got cleaned out)

No not quite. The fuel pump was what was whining, the fuel filter plugs up and causes the pump to strain. Its a VERY common complaint on the B6 A4, the pump and lines never clog.
If you would have read my Sticky common problems+repairs you could have saved yourself some time.

The second complaint is a bad switch.

Ahhh the good ol' sticky. i read it a while ago and must have forgotten about that

i was wondering about the source of the noise when i was tracking it down- i didnt hear it from inside the trunk (where i thought you could hear the pump), but only from underneath (or in the cabin) from the fuel filter.

New to Audi...New to forum. Can anyone tell me more about the red LED on the ****? Everything works fine, light blinks like code. Audi service says its a burned out light (don't see that) or a diagnostic for a problem(pretty vague). If this is the switch, which seems ok right now,is this a warning for future failure? Thanks for the help.
