Default 2002 A4 3.0 Water Pump Replace?

Hey guys,

I'm new to the Audi scene here... obviously why I'm posting in this section haha.

I just got a steal of a deal for a 2002 Audi A4 3.0 6spd fully loaded.... couldn't pass it up. It is in absolutely perfect conditions minus two things. The gray part of the bumper is separated slightly, and the big problem... the water pump has failed and needs to be replaced.

The car starts, drives, but it is making this horrible engine noise sound. Who knows, maybe I need an engine.... but at the price I got it for I really can't complain... just need help!

Anyway, if someone could point me to a write up on how to do the water pump and probably timing chain, I'd be very grateful. Also, if there is a parts store that doesn't rape you on prices, I'd love to have that information too.

Looking forward to making this Audi my daily driver ASAP!

Thanks for your help!

Andrew

Timing *belt*, actually, and yes, if you're doing one, you might as well do the other - normal T-belt service on these cars includes a water pump replacement both because it's necessary and because it's right there in the same spot. Unfortunately, it can be VERY expensive because it's a ton of labor, esp on the 3.0 V6. IIRC the parts cost is also higher on that than the 1.8T. Not sure where you'll find the writeup on how to do it yourself, but here's the parts you need: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...g_Belt/ES4708/

There's also a cheaper version with less stuff included if you decide you don't need some of it for whatever reason.

Thank you! You are my hero.

I found the writeup - this site is pretty handy too...

Well, knowing where to get parts hardly makes me a hero. The real hero is the guy who took the time to write up such detailed instructions - here's hoping it all goes well for you when you do it.
