2002 Audi A4 Key
 

I'm looking to get an extra key for my 2002 Audi A4. I've read about the immobilizer, and was wondering if that is in my B6 key. If it isn't, where would you all suggest to purchase an additional key? If it is, is the only way to obtain such a key through an official Audi dealership?

P.S. - I just picked up the 2002 Audi A4 I had posted about a few days/week ago!! I absolutely love the car, and look forward to my experiences with it. It is such a joy to drive.

You don't have to purchase keys from a dealer, lots of people purchase it on eBay. You just need someone to cut it. However, our car has immobilizer so the new key needs re-program it. Here are simple steps to re-program the key.

1. Get in the car and close the door. Press unlock on the key fob (the one needs re-program)
2. While holding down unlock, insert the key into ignition and turn the ignition to ON position (the stage right before start engine)
3. Turn it off and pull out the key (you are still holding down unlock button at this time)
4. Release unlock button
5. Test the key fob by press either lock or unlock
6. You are good to go

Make sure you are holding down unlock button while doing step 1 - 3.
