Default 2002 Audi A4 vibrating

I have a 2002 Audi A4 3.0 and for some reason the whole car seems to vibrate while it's in gear of D or R with brake applied. It only does it when the car is in gear and standing still. When I shift to P or N it goes away. The car seem to drive fine and I don't notice any vibration white the car is moving. Any suggestions on what it could be.

Thanks,

Check the idle RPM when in gear and stopped and compare it when in neutral. The idle speed should remain farly constant. If it drops too low when in gear then the engine will shake.

The RPM remain fairly constant when I shift from P to D. The weird part is that it doesn't vibrate when I drive it.

could it be the snub mount. If the rubber stop is gone or corrided that will cause the car to vibrate at idle.

If it was the snub, transmission, or motor mount wouldn't the car vibrate all the time then. In my case the car doesn't vibrate when it's moving.

No, not necessarily bernes1982. I too have a bad snub mount, and only notice the vibration at idle. Have a friend (someone who you trust) get in the car and put it in drive (brakes applied the whole time) while you take a look under the hood and observe the mounts. My very first thought on this was one or more of your mounts need replaced. It doesn't cost anything to do.

Have someone shift from park to drive while you watch the engine. If it shifts back/down when dropped into drive, and forward/up when put back into park, your snub is shot.
