2005 a4 3.0
Im about to buy a 2005 A4 with the 3.0 motor. Its automatic and in very good shape. The current owner has had all the work done at the dealership and has receipts. It currently has 78kmi on it.
After reading through the forums i know the 3.0 have less problems then the 1.8t's. What problems if any are these motors known for?
He has not had the timing belt done yet and how much should I expect to pay if i have it replaced at the dealership or elsewhere?
Any advice is certainly appreciated.

the timing belt for the 3.0 is known to be very expensive compared to the 1.8t. for the 1.8t you shouldn't expect anything more than a 1000 at an indy shop, but for 3.0 i've heard rumours about it costing easily over 2 grand, if not close to 3000. you should call up a few places around town and see who has the cheapest costs.
I have an '05 A4 3L, and was quoted 2700usd last week for the 75K maintenance that included the timing belt. Luckily, the dealer looked up my vin and found I was covered by audicare. I did not know but, it seems that was purchased originally with the car and covers all maintenance and best of all it stays with the car! The dealer covered the maint including the belt but, it was 'suggested' to replace some rollers, tensioning device, and water pump and of course they are not covered. So for an extra$750 all was done. I'm sure they try to recoup what they can.
