A4 Quattro AT questions

Hello to all.

I own a Golf 1.8T I like it, plain and simple.
I'm on the market for a wagon so I can haul things I cannot in the Golf; I was looking into a Jetta but came across a 2004 Audi A4 Quattro Avant/Wagon AT
Price seems ok but here's the catch; owners state it needs transmission work
(or so is their guess) Commuter car with 111K miles on. They state that the car is ok to drive BUT around the 80 mile drive, car shuts down; can be driven again by waiting 5 or so minutes...

"Car Runs and drives but
NEEDS TRANSMISSION WORK
This is the car I was using for my daily commute, The car can drive for about 80 miles with no problem, however if you stop at a light, stop sign or even if you need to stop when stuck in traffic, the car won't drive anymore. You will have to turn the engine off, give it 5 minutes and then turn it on again to keep on driving."

I asked if they knew the type of transmission it has but they don't know and neither do I. Engine code is AMB 1.8T AWD (Quattro); I inquired about if they would provide a Smog Certificate... Nope.
Checked oil dipstick, came out incredibly clear after running the car on idle for about 5 minutes.
If the vehicle has the CVT trans then is a NO NO for me; Am I correct in assuming the car has the Tiptronic transmission?
I used a VagCom scanner but no codes came for either engine or transmission; no MIL light on either.
Car is in decent condition; outside is in very nice shape, needs some polishing of the headlights (piece of cake) Tires (pricey cake) and a good nice cleaning of the interior plus floor mats.
I even like the color.
Car has been listed on/off for a couple months; my opinion is Audi having the fame for bad transmissions and the huge price tag for a repair, drives away people almost immediately.
Could it be a possible TCM? I mean no codes on the scanner means no issues, right? Attached is an image of the scanner info.
I appreciate any info, input or direction to the right thread, I can perform some mechanical work but have no place to work on the car then return the next week to complete repair.

Thank you in advance!

Scanner reads:

02 - Automatic Transmission

The only things I can tell you are a) it's a tiptronic if it's Quattro. The CVT came with the front drive version; and b) ask if the seller is willing to let the car go to a shop for a diagnostic at your expense. It may cost you $100-150 or so but consider it the price to pay toward possibly avoiding a car that's got much more expensive issues than you're currently aware of.

Thanks for the info; I did read about the CV Transmissions; I'll get in touch with the owner, possibly go to a nearby shop to test.
