Default Audi A4 1.8T Problems

Hello all,

I have recently just joined after being a lurker for awhile! The forum has been a lot of help! Anywho, I've been having a ignition coil problem with my A4. I had a code say catalytic, so, I took it to the dealer to run a check on it and my ignition coil was bad and I had some oil in there, so I just went ahead and had them change it. I drive home, go to work, get out of work around midnight and notice there is a puddle under the car...GREAT! so I get in start it up, no codes flash, I limp it home and it is shaking all over the place! Called the dealer, they said to bring it in again, but seeing as the parts is closed over the weekend and I dont want to drop another $700 bucks fixing it, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?? I figure it might be another ignition coil, but another one go bad the same day? Any help is appreciated.

TIA,

-Anthony

Sounds like an ignition coil. Weird that there are no codes.

1.8T do not have a coil, they use coil pack's and there's no oil in them.

Puddle of what? Well your shaking sounds like it's a bad coilpack and shouldn't be anywhere close to $700 to fix.

Sorry, I meant coilpack. It sounds like the problem is caused by the only thing that our cars have that affects the way the car runs and has coil in the name.

I think they do have ignition coils and coil packs. Anyway, sounds like a coilpack was blown with the new gear they installed. If they're old, that's understandable. Buy 4 new ones from the dealer ($40/ea, cheaper at VW) and replace in the parking lot. 10 minutes.

The puddle of fluid puzzles me, though.

thats what I wasnt understanding. It was midnight and I couldn't see, so I limped it home. I also wasn't understanding why there would be oil in the coil pack...

Thanks again everyone.

Oil in the shafts where the plugs go can be a leaking valve cover gasket. I actually had some last time i did the plugs, but the dealer had changed that gasket and im assuming they just didnt clean it out.

Yea, fluid on the plugs or coil packs is probably a bad valve cover gasket.

well the dealer towed it for free and did another diagnostic on it and said it was another coil pack, quoted 250 for repairs. 62 bucks a pack. I called up auto haus and they got me the packs for 30 bucks a piece. Thanks for all the help guys!
