Default no more mobil1 5w40?

Seems like they don't make 5w40 anymore. Is castrol 5w40 just as good?

I thought they stopped making 5w40 a long time ago. Castrol Syntec is a good alternative. Or you could always run something like royal purple.

Royal purple is really not that much more expensive. Also, according to ecstuning, that new k&n filter is recommended by audi. That's what I used on my last change, royal purple and a k&n oil filter.

On my last oil change I used mobil1 5w40. I'll just use castrol.

Maybe and the next run I'll use royal purple, and I usually just go to a VW dealership and pick up a oil filter.

How much is the filter from vw? The k&n was 11 and in stock along with the oil at oreilly. I used 5w30 which is also approved in the manual. Thought I saw 5w40 there too though.

Edit: yes royal purple does make 5w40. Is there really any benefit of using that over 5w30?

My local Advance Auto Parts carries Mobil One Syn 0w30 or whatever it is and it meets the VW502 spec.

the manual says to only use 0 weight in very cold climates. I think it says sub zero.
