Hey just bought a used 2003 a4 1.8t quattro. I want to make it faster and I heard that the 1.8t's are easier to upgrade rather than the 3.0 V6, so im wondering how i can get some hp gain without spending a ridiculous amount of money.

 

KO4 turbo (ebay $275) is a simple turbo replacement, i dont think it requires new inter cooler or manifolds im sure, just turbo replacement.

i would get it chipped or retuned by a performance shop, have no idea how much, depends i say between $100 - $400

those two will probably do the most significant changes for the money after those you might be at 250hp

 

APR Stage 1+ chip, upgraded injectors, upgraded diverter valve = roughly 230HP (from 170 stock) for about $1200. That's what I'd do to mine if I had a spare $1200, anyway.

 

Thanks for replying, I was looking at the ko4 turbo like you said, but I was also thinking about putting on a cheap universal intercooler kit, with the ko4 turbo. Would that be better or not?

 

This is the normal progression of mods.

1. Chip
2. Diverter Valve
3. Test Pipe (with stage 2 software)
4. Intercooler Kit
5. Turbo upgrade

The K04 is known to pretty much be obsolete nowadays, as most people do the GTRS eliminators.

What ever you do dont buy a EBay K04, other wise you might as well go down the street and give your money away or throw it in a pile and set it on fire.


K04 on a B6 1.8t is pretty much pointless. Very little bang for your buck.
