I have an 03' cab. V6 CVT.

I went the the gas station to fill up (low fuel light was on and computer said I had 50km to empty) and after adding only 3 litres the fuel nozzle would stop as if the fuel tank was full. Tried it a few more times, and gas actually started to come out as if it was over full, eventhough I had just added a very small amount.

Has this ever happend to anyone else??? I've got 80km to emptynow according to my computer and my nearest dealer is 100km away.

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Try taking the negative battery cable off for a few minutes and then put it back on. See if that resets the fuel gauge.

will resetting the fuel gauge allow me to fill my tank? Could I have a "kink" or some air trapped in the tank? Is there some kind of security or anti-cyphoning device in the gas tank that has tripped?

Thanks again.

My guess would be that you don't need to fill your tank, if fuel is coming out of the spout, then it is full. Your guage is probably not accurate.

Sounds like your fill tube flap is not opening enough and causing the pump to auto shut off.

Defective Pump Perhaps?
Have you tried a different pump? I had the same issue with my car not filling and I tried a different pump. Filled up no prob.

audi has a history with fuel level indicators. better it's telling you that you are out of gas than like mine which said I had 140 miles left and I ran out on the way to the airport.

That SUCKS man! When mine acted up it was right after I had filled up. I was on E (5 miles left), so I filled the car up with almost 16 gallons. When I got back in the car it said I still only had 5 miles left. When I got home I took the battery off for about 2 minutes and when I put it back on the gauge started working again.

I tried a different pump and it filled no problem. What gives? Sounds like it may be the fuel flap? Is that something that has now corrected itself since I was able to fill the car up?

try doing what myst said. I work on boats during the summer, and if you've ever heard of the sport wakeboarding the boats are equipped with ballast tanks. The ballast tank has a timer switch. In order to reset the switch so that it will fill all the way instead of just half you have to disconnect the ground wire from the batter for a few minutes and it erases the memory.
