I replaced the rad on my 04 A4 1.8T and noticed that my control arms are a little worn out. I also know that I need a right front wheel bearing on my car but the dealership isn't taking in cars for another month b/c they are too busy (and my car is too old).

Anyways anybody here DIY the control arms on a B6 A4? and if so is ita big job? How about front wheel bearings?

i looked and couldnt find much for a control arm diy. but if you look on audidiy.com under suspension removal on a B6. it seems you could do the upper CA pretty easy. as for wheel bearings... a tire shop can press those in pretty cheap

 

I did my upper arms on my B5 about a month ago I doubt they are that different. Basically just remove the shock tower, unbolt the arms and replace. Pretty straight forward if you are mechanically inclined.

OKay I will get the wheel bearings done at a local shop....

but with the contol arms. do you know if the ball joints shown in the pic are pressed in? if I pull that bolt out will they just come out?

i imagine you should be able to wiggle those out. but dont take my word for it.
i havent done any control arm servicing on my car

 

yeah, I am not sure if I can get them apart with my air hammer or if they have some stupid tool part # 123456 that is required to seperate them.

Don't want to tear it all apart just to put it back together and take it to the dealership.

 

All 4 control arms are $1000.00 from my dealership!!!!
