Coolant flange???

I have a 2002 a4 1.8 quattro, I believe my coolant flange is leaking profusely. Due to my inexperience, im not sure it is the coolant flange, but by reading other threads I have gathered it is most likely. It is a component behind alternator, under the manifold and near the oil dipstick.

Coolant flange is on the passenger side of the block between the engine and the firewall. Sounds like you are talking about the thermostat from your description of the location. Might just be a hose connection that you can tighten up.

Thank you

Yes, your right, called audi dealer, and was corrected. Do you know how difficult a thermostat/water outlet assembly is to do yourself? Any tips would be appreciated:)

Do some searching and I'm sure you will find plenty of info. I haven't had to deal with thermostat on mine yet, but I did replace my flange so I knew that wasn't what you were dealing with.

Good luck.

My friend is a former VW mechanic was helping me replace it. However, the little bugger will not come out of the flange. He suspects the o-ring is damaged and keeping it from being removed. We watched a couple of videos and each one the guy just popped it out with little effort.

We took out the air filter box and associated intake tubing as well as unplugging the three sensors that attach to the flange for better access. We also opened up the coolant reservoir and squeezed the main coolant hoses to try to reduce any potential vacuum seal the system may have had on it. He even took a propane torch and carefully heated the metal Showbox jiofi.local.html tplinklogin around the sensor to try get the metal to expand ever so slightly for more wiggle room.

We tried for a good two hours but eventually gave up because we were making no headway. Has anyone replaced this sensor before and have any tricks to getting it out? Thanks!
