Hi all, I need advice. I'm considering an '04 A4 Avant Quatro manual 1.8T equipped as follows with 58,000 miles:

I know some of these are standard items. I just copied form the sale sheet. Seller wants 15K but I assume I could knock 3-4K off. My question is, is this model/year safe as far as reliability and expected expenses. I will be checking what maintenance work has already been done later on today. CR advises against this car. What do you think?? Thanks!

 

The '04 is alright I guess, just regular stuff such as timing belt and the occasional Coolant sensor... 15k seems a bit high, 12k is an appropiat price I would say depending on your area, 11 if you live more towards the center of the country, considering how low the miles are. Just look at regular stuff check the oil for consistency and if is automatic make sure all the lights work properly on the dashboard, you don't want something that is giving you weird lights on the dash for a triptronic.

 

Thanks. This car was sold before I could drive it today. But, I'll be keeping my eyes open for similar ones. Any particular years recommended for manual 4 cylinder turbo avants?
