Default Engine Coolant

I have an '04 A4 1.8T and need to put in some engine coolant. I don't have the owner's manual handy and was hoping someone could tell me whether or not I need to put in a specific type of coolant. Thanks in advance.

Yes, only put in G12 from a VW or audi dealership. You can also order online from ecstuning and probably other places.

Thank you. Appreciate the heads-up. I'm assuming it is sold by the qt, right? If so, I probably need to pick up one bottle since the light just came on yesterday. Sound right?

Sold by the gallon and its kinda pricey. You can get quarts online made by pentosin. Its too bad youre in Chicago and its winter, otherwise you could get away with just adding water until your leak is fixed. Check the jug for the proper ratio for your climate.

Last question, I promise. Once I pick up some of the G12 from my local Audi dealer, is it safe to just put the coolant in until it's a half inch or so from the full line? I don't need to mix anything else with it, right?

Not that horribly pricey: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/G12_Coolant/

Once you get some, wherever you get it from, the instructions are on the bottle, but if I recall correctly, a 50/50 mix with water works well for most temperature ranges.

Like $30 per gallon. You can top off with G12, then next time top off with water.
