Definitely the MAF!!!
I had the same problem just a few weeks ago, the ESP light comes on and you have a sudden jerk in transmission especially when switching from 4th to 5th gears. Turns out it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Got it switched and now the car runs just fine. Can always confirm with VAG-COM error codes.
