Default Fuel Gauge is Dead

My fuel gauge recently died and I am considering having this fixed. I have limited knowledge here, but suspect that it is the fuel sending unit. My question is: Will this fix require replacing the fuel pump on the 2002 A4 model or is it a stand-alone part? Also, would anyone like to speculate on what this might cost at the dealership?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure its bad? My gauge stopped working in my car one day right after filling it up (it said it was on E after I put 15 gallons in it.) All I ended up doing was disconnecting the battery for a minute and then when the ecu reset, everything was good to go.

I don't know about 2002 but I do kno there is a recall on the fuel pump for 2003 so you should look into that

Well, I disconnected the battery and it worked, but strangely, not immediately. I filled up the tank a few days later and it kicked in again. I'll look into the recall too. Thanks!
