Hey guys just wanted to know if it is possible to refinish or polish the head lights. Mine look a bit pitted, due to rocks in the road im sure.

 

I have seen people user 1200 and 2000grit sand paper. followed by a high speed buffer with very nice results.

 

I have sanded and buffed the lenses on a different car in the past with great results.....for about 2-3 months before I started to see yellowing occur again. Quick fix I guess, but the Audi lenses could show better/ or worseresults for all I know.

 

I heard that you can dip a clean cloth in your power train fluid reservoir and scrub the lights with it and then rinse it well. Apparently a lot of dealers use this method with great results.

I had mine very dimmed. They were yellow and a lot many chips from the road.

So i got the BlueMagic i think was the name from local AdvanceAutoParts i started. So its very good nice paste that works perfect if the plastic is just a little bit yellowish. This was not enough for mine.

So i've got a combination of 350, 400, 600, 1000,1500 and 2000 3M wet sandpaper and started removing the old, dried and byrned from the sun layer of the lenses. I used regular 2.5" flatroundbit on the drill and started sanding. I was sanding until i wasn't able to see very tiny little chips and kinda broken plastic pieces on the top layer of the lenses. But ofcourse everything was all white and my senses became very fade. Don't get scared that is ok. When you are ready with the rough sanding get your 450. Now start making everything even. Follow the same with 600, 1000,1500 and end with 2000 grit sandpaper ( dont forget sandpaper must be web as well i did spray the senses very often to see them wet. The lenses will start getting better and better. So if you reach the 1500 and 2000 sading part and still are able to see imperfections on the plastic cover go back to 400 or 600. You must remove those imperfections with so when you buff it at the and they will be all gone. So i've got finally to 2000 and sanded until the surface became pretty even and there were no scratches ( when you try with a fingernail ). You must have a surface almost perfect but with little fadedd color.

When you get to that point its time fot the BlueMagic. That thing really works. I haven't expected to work at all but i've put a little bit (4-5 drops)on the lense and couple on the microfiber polishing pad. Just with hand you need no drill or buffing. You will see how sthings go. Thats it.

I'm now sorry that i didn't make pictures doing because i did remove a lot of the top plastic layer and you could imagine how ruff it was then.

Again i would like to say that mine were really bad, i was able at night to see the ray and the reflection of the light on the plastic lenses. Your lenses may need just some 2000 or even just 1500 and 2000 after that and at the end the BlueMagic Paste but it is very unique for each of you.

i did the sanding technique on my 1991 lincoln mark VII's faded yellow headlights 2 years ago. Used up to 2000grit, then waxed with meguiars and the finish was amazing. also did this on my buddies 80 z-28 camaro taillights with the same results.
