Default HELP Water in the ECU

OK here is the the scoop (Jardine)

Vehicle- 2003 Audi A4 1.8t quattro

My brother and I had taken the cover of of my ECU when we ran a line from the ac vent to one my hoses (installing a boost gauge). Like most projects we start, we decided to finish up the next day. The next day turned into a week, but i continued to drive the vehicle unaware that the cover was still off the ECU. Couple days went by and the whole routine where the car is dead in the morning thing started. That's when i realized that the fan was running when the vehicle was off, resulting in draining the battery.

After some research i realized that I had most likely gotten some water in my ECU box. After some vacuuming and usage of the heat gun, the problem had stopped. The car was running fine and the fan had stopped coming on for almost a week.

Yesterday the car got back to its old ways. The Fan is running when the car is off and, even when I plug in a battery charger.

I understand that I may have damaged some of the relays, but how do I know which one? Ill start by saying I'm not not much of a mechanic( understand how everything works and where everything is, but im not really a hands on guy) and to make matters worse, the pockets are not to deep at the moment so the Audi dealership is out of the question. My brother is very good with cars and I am just wondering how we can identify which relay needs to be replaced, or if anyone knows specifically which one it may be???

i would find someone with a vagcom to scan it. That would be probably the only way to truly pinpoint that culprit. Though im wanting to lean towards you havin to replace the entire ecu. Using a heatgun on wet stuff isnt the best method to dry it. either rice or silca packets in a zip lock bag. When u heat up the water it turns to steam and fries the circuits. For future reference. but either way find someone with a vagcom.

Default Get new relays

I had the exact same problem, previous owner didn't clean out the plenum drain and I found out after a major rainstorm. I think the relay in question is the 219 but they're not too expensive and you might want to replace all four. I no longer have the fan running problem, now I have what I believe to be related problems with the relay contacts/sockets so reply if you find more after fixing this issue.
