My daughter's car needs an oil change and we cant get the hood open. It appears that the release cable broke right by the latch. How do we go about getting the hood open so the cable can be replaced and the oil changed. Need Help

I opened a B5's hood once after the cable broke. With the front end safely raised, I was able to spot the latch release pretty clearly from below, using a flashlight. From there, it was a matter of finding some suitable metal rod, stick, or whatever to push on the release lever and it popped open. You will be laying on your back, but the latch was only a couple of feet up, so not hard to reach once you spot it.

 

Got the hood open by releasing the latch from underneath, found a video on YouTube that showed me how. Pulled the old cable out part ways and found the cable intact but it felt gritty, sprayed some WD40 in the cable and cleaned the hood latch and now all works good as new. But I bought a new cable so I now have one on hand if the cable ever need replacement.
