Immobilizer Problem
 

I've searched and searched for this and can't find much info. I recently purchased a 2003 A4 3.0 and about 1 in 5 times I start the car it will turn over and then immediately die. When this happens the yellow light on the dash with the key will flash several times. Only once has it took me 3 times to start, it will normally start correctly on the second go around. I only have one key so I can't compare it to another. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this as far as what's involved in the repair (parts, cost, ect) or if there is an easy fix. I'm afraid it's going to go out completely and I'm going to be stuck somewhere.

Try holding the lock button on the remote as you start it. That's supposed to make it learn the key.
