Important part?

I changed my valve cover gaskets this weekend, good thing I did, I was leaking oil into all the spark plug holes. I had to clean up the tips of coilpacks very carefully and went ahead and changed all the plugs too. Anyways, when I was done, and I had everything back together and buttoned up, I saw that I forgot to put the two black plastic box-type covers over the camshaft (the one under the fill cap). These covers are only on this camshaft, and I've seen pictures on this board and others of valvetrains without these covers. Do I have to pop the valve cover back off and put these back on? I can't see why they would be so important if they are only on one of the camshafts, but if someone out knows otherwise could you give me some advice? When I search ECS, they only state the parts as being on VW's...I dunno what to do.

I think they are there to help disperse the oil when you pour it in...maybe to keep it from pooling in that area

nevermind...I'm gonna put them back on....obviously they are there for a reason

lol :D

I think you are right though, it is a catch to help the oil flow where it needs to when you fill it.
