First, let me start by saying how much all of your advice and opinions are appreciated. It's nice to have such a research resource availble.
I am new to the forum, I have searched for step by step instructions to replace coil packs, because even though I am pretty darn handy, I don't want to damage my harness where it clips to the coil pack, I have an audi a4 cab 3.0...the coil packs seem very well connected to the engine...am I missing an important piece to the puzzle? or, just being overly cautious? All the threads I have read seem to mention that it is easy to replace...even on the road....but, I am having a heck of a time just trying to seperate the harness from the pack...any and all help would be appreiciated...sorry if this should have been posted inside another thread....like I said, I am new to the site...thanks in advance all.

 

to remove harness stick a flathead where their is an insert/ push in of the harness/ twist ur flathead pull out.

 

ok...that i understand Paul...I guess my question is along the lines of ..Do I need to remove the Torx screw that holds the harness to the engine, or should I be able to remove the coil pack without that type of procedure...after reading how some folks leave an extra coil pack in their trunk "just in case" and doing a roadside change, I am wondering if it is that much easier on the 1.8?...just seems so tight in the 3.0 , no "wiggle room" for the harness if you know what I mean.. it is the number 3 cylinder that needs the change

 

The 3.0L packs are kind of a bitch to get at, you need to remove those little torx screws holding the harness down or you will break the connector to the packs. You REALLY don't want to do that so just take your time. If you don't have a T15 torx (super small) to pull the screws out, just use a small flat head screw driver or pliers to get them out, they aren't bolted in there real tight.
I never put them all back in either, completely unnecessary.

Climbing a 5-12 is way harder. Just take the black protective cover off (use a quarter and turn the screws 1/4 turn and they pop off) then look at the coilpacks and study them much the way you'd study a 5-12 prior to climbing.

True but correct me if I'm wrong auditech, isn't it the same procedure on a 6cyl??? just more packs right???
