Intake Flap Motor? Keeps misfiring and have replaced coils/plugs

Hi all.

I've searched and searched and can't find an end to my misfire problem.

All the coils have been replaced, all the spark plugs, and I finally took it to the dealer and they said I need a new intake flap motor.

I will always try to do things myself first, but i can barely find a single thing on an intake flap motor (for a 2002 3l V6 A4) and can't find anything in the bentley/eBahn repair program or on google.

Is it called anything else?

Any help would be appreciated so much.

Are you sure the dealer said it was "Intake flap motor"?
I think they are talking about the "Intake change-over valve" in intake manifold runner of your 3.0L engine. If this valve is sticky or broken apart inside, it will cause lack of power and misfire under acceleration (especially around 4200 rpm or more) The car will most likely idle very normal and run ok at steady speed.

Positive he said intake flap motor, and it is even written. The car doesn't idle very well, it vibrates as if it is misfiring even at a fresh start.

I am thinking about replacing the changeover valve anyway, as the plastic is very worn down and it is missing a spring that exists in the exploded view of the repair guide.

Air Intake... Some airboxes have a flapper that opens/closes during acceleration.

Misfires occur because of one of three reasons.

No spark

OR

No fuel

OR

No air

Check fuel filter
Air filter

And anything else that has to do with sending spar, fuel and air to your engine.

I saw this before, and it seems to be applicable only to 05+s and some 04s, so I don't think that it exists on my 02.

In that case, i'm thinking this may not even exist on my car and that the mechanic either misspoke or isn't as trustworthy as I thought.

Yes, I understand that, and this could be due to air, no? The question I had was what the Intake Flapper Motor was and where I could find it on my 02 3.0, or if it even exists on that model.

I think you need to talk to your mechanic (Not service advisor) to comfirm about the "intake flap motor" on your 3.0L A4 because it doesn't have it.

If you did go that far to see the missing spring in the change-over valve, you may see it may be broken apart. Make sure no borken piece stays in the intake after replacing the change-over valve.
