Interested in purchasing - but have a few doubts.

Hey guys,

I'm am currently looking at getting a B6/B7: Audi 2002 3.0L V6 Quattro.
I am wondering what I should look out for and if this vehicle requires extensive precautionary maintenance.

I previously owned a BMW 2002 530i (E39) and had endless problems with it. It was a nice vehicle to drive, when it wasn't getting fixed. Had to replace the entire cooling system, with a list of other things to work on including: replacing VANOS seals, replace valve cover gasket...etc etc. I had a solenoid valve go on it as well as an oil filter housing gasket... a lot of $ was spent. It was ridiculous.

I can't see any justification owning a vehicle like my previous one if you basically need to replace conponent after another... and nek minnit you might as well have purchased a new engine.

My question is: Apart from the usual: oil changes, filter changes, fluid changes, brakes & suspension checks, spark plug changes...etc
Does this vehicle require any "extensive" precautionary maintenance; e.g. replacing the whole cooling system... stuff like that?

Any major flaws in these vehicles I should know?

FYI this is the sort of vehicle I'm looking at: any thoughts would be greatly appreciated on this particular vehicle.

Thanks for everything guys. :D

Quattro is just Audi's AWD

Definitely go for Quattro. In my mind, this is what separates Audi from the rest!

In terms of maintenance, the water pump and timing belt job is what usually costs the most/is what everybody thinks in terms of big jobs. If you are looking at a car with over 75,000 miles or so, make sure this job has been completed, and completed well!

Other than that, there are a few more minor things here and there. Check out Audizine, it's a forum much like this, but I think a bit more popular. Service intervals for B6/7 A4-S4.
