Default issue with starting

Lately my 2003 A4 quattro 1.8T does not always start on the first try - it kind of immediately stalls. Tonight it took 3 tries to start.
The dealer blew me off and said I wasn't holding the key in the start position long enough.

Any bright ideas?

Thanks all

Cheers,
Jeff

Mine was doing that, then I had the ECT die and flange leaking coolant. After that technically easy but difficult to reach job was done, it has been fine. I wonder if your ECT is going? If you rev it as soon as you start it, will it run fine? That's what mine did. The ECT is easy. No real tools needed, but if you have to do your coolant flange. Get ready to hug your engine for a while.

I'm having the same problem - start up - fine - drive 5 minutes turn off - try to start again in 5 minutes to even an hour - nothing but turn over without starting - what is the ECT?

(engine coolant temperature) sensor, if it malfunctions it can inhibit the ECM from firing the fuel injectors or cause the fuel system to run way to rich causing a hard start concern.

I have done everything across the board w/ this situation from cleaning the throttle body and replacing the coolant temp sensor...to new plugs and just recently put in new coil packs and it STILL is starting like ****. I don't know what else to do!!! Any ideas!? There is no CEL yet either. Thanks!
