Hey guys I'm really hoping I can get some help here.
I've had my 2002 1.8t for about 4 years now and it has always run great. I only have a few mods on it- forge diverter/bov, stage 1 unitronic chip upgrade, and an afe cold air intake.

About a month ago (yes I still can't seem to fix the problem) my car started to make an extremely loud annoying whistling sound.. sounds exactly like one of those toy kazoos haha.

I know its not how the turbo is supposed to sound so please don't say oh its just your turbo spooling..

I just found a tear in the coupler that connects my intake hose to my turbo but even after repairing that the whistling continues.

By the way- when I rev the engine at idle I cant hear the whining which is making this difficult to understand. it only does it when I'm driving and I press on the gas harder (doesn't really coincide with a specific rpm tho)

any ideas???

 

ur turbo is on its last mile. If it sounds like a dentist drill then ur turbo is blown.

 

it sounds kind of like a dentist drill =( its really loud and obnoxious and it lags a lot. I can barely feel my turbo spooling.

so what should I do?? is that fixable or do I just need a whole new turbo?

 

i would say u need a new turbo. I would check the classifieds over on audizine.com and see if anyone is selling their old k03 u can get for a good price.
