My 1.8t 5spd doesnt like to start up after a long-semi long drive until it cools down

1. 2003
2. Audi A4
3. 1.8t with 5speed trans
4. 137k
5. Quattro
6. Haven't ran any codes because I dont have anywhere locally to do it.

Figured I'd post this here to see if I could get any help. I love my new car in every way but one. After I drive it to the point it warms up to normal operating temperature and stop to go into a store or something for 30 minutes to an hour and come out to start it up and leave it just sits there cranking and wont fire up.
I try this a few times and it will start up usually the 3rd or 4th try but the EPC light comes and stays on. I then turn it off and turn it back on and it fires right up and the light is gone and I drive away with no problems.
It always fires right up in the morning, afternoon, or night time after its been sitting with no problems whatsoever and never leaves me stranded but it kindof worries me.
I have read that this can be caused by a faulty coolant temp sensor or engine speed sensor. If anybody has has this problem or fixed one like it I would really appreciate your imput, I am pretty car savvy and will be doing the work myself if it is just the sensors (found a few right-ups online on how to do each).
Thank you,
Pierce

comeon people, help me out.

I have a TT with the 1.8t 225HP 6 speed and I have the same problem from time to time. Like you said, when the engine warms up and I come back to start it, it just cranks but wont turn over. I have to crank the engine and hold the gas down for like 5 seconds then it fires up. I had the codes read and it said I needed a new upstream O2 sensor. I changed that and it worked good for a few days then started again. I have not had the codes read again but I am guessing I need to replace the downstream O2 sensor now too. So that would be my best guess, replace the O2 sensors. Funny though, I am from Michigan too! Maybe Audis' dont like Michigan weather. LOL

I hope this might help you some. Good Luck!!!

Ben

Thanks Ben. I talked to Auditech79 on here and he said to replace my coolant temp sensor because its a very common thing to go out and when its going out it tells your car not to send fuel due to it reading the wrong temp and he said its a super common problem.

AHHH, good to know!!! I will have to look in to that for my car too if I keep having the same problem... Thanks for sharing the information!!! Again, good luck!

Ben,

Any luck when you replaced the coolant sensor?
