Need help: Is this a smart purchase?
okay guys and girls,
i am new to the audi world as i have only owned bmw's in the past. Ioam looking at buying a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T AWD 6speed. The car drives amazing and was previously owned by a woman who really knows her cars. it was awesome conversing with her. The car has a lot of tasteful modifications and preventative maintenance. However, it also has 105xxx miles on it. It has the timng belt/waterpump changed at 90k already so i know thats fine. Im scared with this many miles the car is bound to start having major issues.
she was asking 12000 for the car but we settled on a price of 10000 as long as the car checks out at the mechanic.
what do all of you think, is this a good deal or should i stay away?
cheers
derek

I bought a used A6 w/ 120k on the dash from the original owner who kept it in a garage and had all the receipts since day one. I drove it across the country the next week with no issues other than a tire blow out. ( crappy tires) got all 4 replaces and kept on going. no issues with the car at all. it still pulls strong and the clutch is in good shape ( still on the original clutch)
$10K seems a bit high for the mileage to me, but that's based on my purchase of an '02 1.8T quattro 5 speed last November for just under $11K at a dealership with 62K miles on it at the time. Relatively speaking, my car is a year older (based on age at time of purchase), but with 40K less miles, and I only paid $1K more. I haven't checked blue book on your '04, but $10K seems pretty high at that mileage, especially for a private party sale. Of course, if it's what you really want and it's in perfect "needs nothing" condition, the price might be right. That also depends on what the "tasteful modifications" in question are. Performance upgrades would raise value in my eyes, but might have the opposite effect for some other people. Same goes for wheels, especially given what a personal/style choice they can be.

note that this one has to have the timing belt changed in the next 15000 miles since it has 65 on the clock and never been changed yet. also this car is driven by a crazy driver. even scared me and im pretty outgoing when it comes to driving.
let me know what you guys think

lol...
i bought my 2002 audi a4 1.8t quattro for 6800 with 107k if that helps you out at all. good deals on these can be found, it just takes a lot of looking and luck.
my car now has 115,000 and hasn't had any MAJOR issues (thankfully) besides the coilpack issue that has been recalled on this model.

If it is an 04 with a 6speed it is a USP model and worth more.. The second one you looked at has an aftermarket rear bumper, exhasut and front bumper, just make sure its a sound car. I'm not a fan of the aftermarket stuff on that vehicle and its a 2wd vehicle if you look at the listing.
I would pass on both and keep looking.. OR get the 04 for like 8500 and get the leaks fixed.
