Exclamation New Guy Needs Help: 02 Audi A4 Brake Bleeding issue after caliper swap.

Hey audiforums,

You guys have been helping me for years. First with my Audi TT and now with my Audi A4. You guys have saved me endless $$ and helped me learn a ton So i want to start out by saying thank you for being so unselfish in your pursuit to share.

Heres my current problem. Ill start with how it happened.

My wife wanted to drive my 02 Audi A4 1.8t FWD to work. Its mostly sat off and on(about 2 years due to surgeries so ive been working on getting it back up. ) and needed brakes but i said ok. While she was at work i decided to order the rotors and pads.

So, while she was out on lunch that day the caliper on the drivers side rear locks up and blows. She calls freaked right out. Figures right? I get the car home using prayer and my e-brake. ABS , Check Engine, Traction Control, and E-Brake light were on like a Christmas tree.

I got the rotors, pads, and caliper the next day. My brother came over and we got those all done. After the brake job, the traction control and e-brake light went off. We bled both the back calipers but no dice. It was pouring rain and cold so we called it a day. Ive tried bleeding them again a couple times with the same result. Originally when bleeding, there was a fair amount of air bubbles coming out.

I took the car out in my neighborhood today to see how its reacting. About 200 feet after on the street the ABS clears off and i have no more lights but still no brake pressure. After the ABS light cleared i did get more pressure at the pedal i noticed. I have no tried bleeding since the ABS light has removed.

My Question: WTF do i do. Ive read the forums on this and know theres a order to bleed, some stuff requires a vag-com, or a power bleeder. but to be honest, im pretty lost at this point. Any direction would be nice.

Please and thank you.

This should be the correct order for the bleed...
Passenger Rear
Driver Rear
Passenger Front
Driver Front

It is my understanding that the vag-com is required for vehicles with ESP but I cannot confirm. Also, apparently the ABS system is where a lot of the air gets "trapped" in the system. when you get to the driver front, you are supposed to use the vag-com to "force" the ABS pump to run to bleed the air out.

never done it personally, information above is based on my limited research

good luck
