Default Oil Light Coming On

Hi all

Yesterday had the red oil warning light flash and beep. It happened a few times so I stopped the car and haven't driven it since.

After reading through the common thing seems to be sludge collecting. I don't have a clue about mechanics nor do I have money for the repair.

I was wondering if there's a cheap way of doing this or anything I can add to the oil to clear the problem? Or would it be easier if I just sold the car not working as that's my only other real option

Any help would be really appreciated

Kind Regards
Lenny

check the oil level and the oil condition. you will have to change it and top it up to the correct level. also you will have to check the oil pressure sensor, pick up tube and the filter.
any way you will have to spend. don't sell the car, because they are some things that are close to your heart.

Hi jmarshall098

Thanks for the reply. Oil level is fine and oil looks ok. Like I said I'm not mechanically minded at all so any repairs or even checking pipes etc I would have to pay for and I'm in the position I can't unfortunately.

Are there any liquids that can be added to the engine to break down any blockages etc?

Regards
Lenny

Also is there anything that I can look out for under the cap where you fill the oil to show there is potentially a blockage?

You can try seafoam, but you will have to drain the oil (along with the seafoam) and then fill it up with new oil and a new filter.

As far as being able to see anything from just opening up the fill cap: No. Unfortunately, there's not much that you can see from just opening the cap.

Without actually taking it to a shop or getting down and dirty on the car, you could potentially ruin the engine if oil isn't flowing correctly because of a blocked pick up tube or some other blockage or malfunction.

If you don't have the money to get it serviced and you aren't mechanically inclined and don't want to give it a try, you're best option would be to go the seafoam route and pray it actually clears out any sludge (Assuming that's why you are seeing that red light). If that doesn't work, you are on borrowed time and could potentially cause several thousand dollars worth of damage if you were to continue to drive it.

Proceed with caution. This isn't an easy choice given the options you stated.

repairs are inevitable. you need to get it inspected from a expert or it will pose potential issues relating to the engine.
