Default Oil Light Questions from a brand new Audi owner

So, I purchased an 02 1.8t A4 Quattro just today and on the way home from the dealer the Oil Light came on. I pressed the check button and it said "Shut Engine off and check oil level". So I pulled over and did so. The oil level was fine. On the way home the light came on several more times. After reading around and searching the forum, I have read a lot about the pick up tube and a screen that get clogged up with sludge. Most of the posts I've seen, people mention something about the oil pressure light. This indicator never said anything about pressure, just the oil level. Is this the same thing? Am I looking at a sludge issue?

I am going to replace the oil with 0-40w synthetic, as well as a new switch tomorrow. I'll see if that helps.

No thats a completely different problem. This is just your oil level sensor that is in the bottom of the oil pan.

Yellow oil light = Oil level sensor problem

Red oil light = oh **** time, there is no oil pressure.

Tell the dealer you bought it from, audi has a very detailed and long TSB about the problem. The repair "should" be covered by audi, even a new engine if needed. The TSB states that you need proof of all oil change reciepts for at least every 10k since you owned the car, since you just bought it, it should be covered, regardless of the previous owner.

I have every single service record for the car since the first owner purchased the car and they have all been done by Audi. I will call the dealer I bought the car from and see what we can do to get the car fixed. Thanks for the help.

Well if you have all the service records (inlcuding the receipt from when you bought the car) you can probably take it directly to audi. Audi will be the one performing the TSB afterall.

I bought the car from an independent dealer not an Audi dealer. Will it matter?
