Default Painted Lowers? Help! :)

Before I even bought my A4 a little less than a year ago, I went to look at it and the one thing that bothered me was how the black plastics made the car look incomplete - but I figured that I'd eventually just get them painted. Now, they're not absolutely HORRIBLE, but I'd love to paint them so that the car actually looks flush. IMO, the A4 B6's that come painted out of the dealership look much different than the ones that are painted aftermarket. I know that the material of the black lowers aren't exactly the best to paint, and sometimes it's impossible to match with the rest of the car.. I've also seen a bunch of them that people have done themselves, and they actually look damn good. I'd love to hear others' experiences with painting their lowers (specifically those who have Polar white - but all others are welcome as well!), whether they were DIY or done at a shop, and around how much it cost those who've gotten them done professionally.

For those who've DIY:

* What was the best paint you found & how well did it hold up to driving & the weather? (And what was the primer & top coat you used?)
* How many coats did you find sufficient?
* And what method did you use?

For those who've gotten it done professionally:

* What was the roundabout cost to get all pieces painted?
* How well did the color match the original paint? (I've sometimes seen the colors extremely off and you could easily tell that the plastics were black)
* And how well did the paint hold up?

Forgive me if there's already a thread with all of these questions, but I couldn't find it. For those of you who've already done this, pictures are VERY welcome! I want as much info as possible before I dive in

You guys are awesome! Thanks a bunch
XOXOXO

I wouldnt try to color match white on my own. Im not to sure how much a body shop would charge to paint the lowers but if a body guy tells u he cant do it then he is lazy. My body guy painted mine and they all came out perfect but he did it as a favor for me so no charge. I wound venture to say anywhere between 2 and 4 bills to get em painted. Best bet is to get a few quotes

That seems to be the general consenus I'm probably going to get a couple of different quotes from other body shops. I contacted one of the shops around here and they wanted to charge me about $650 for a so-so paint job. My fiance is working on getting his MK5 GTi lowers painted as well, so we're gonna try to do it together

Thank you for the reply! It's nice to hear that someone got their lowers painted & they came out well. I've been worried because the plastics seem like they wouldn't hold the paint too well.

Thanks again, love! You rock. x

yea some guys will say that u cant paint them cuz of the plastic. But thats bs. A good paint guy can match them. Also make sure when u get it painted to have them blend the paint or their will be different shades from bottom to top.
