Default Passenger side mirror won't fold

On my '02 3.0 Quattro B6, I just discoverd that only the driver's side mirror will fold electrically. The passenger mirror doesn't budge. I tried wiggling the mirror by hand to release it, but that didn't help. I rarely use this feature, so I don't know how long it's been out of whack. Any suggestions?

Can you hear the motor run and it jsut doesn't move?

My passenger mirror got bumped by a shopping cart and folded forward, now the power mirror won't adjust properly...everything still runs, but the mirror doesn't have a full range of motion.

I honestly don't understand the power folding mirror, why do we want this feature? It doesn't really seem to have a useful purpose other than to break the mirror when you actualyl have somthing hit it and fold it. Revenue generation for Audi service?

It's for people who park on the street. On small streets with lots of traffic, that feature could save your mirror from being lopped off.

I don't think the passenger mirror is suppose to fold. You're only suppose to park on the right side of the street, thus only ever needing the driver's mirror to fold. If you look at the mirror controls, the folding symbol only shows the driver's mirror. Hope that helped.

There is no motor sound from the passenger mirror when using the "fold" feature. It just sits there, while the driver's mirror does its thing. Otherwise, the mirror still can be adjusted, and the "tilt-down" feature also works.

Thanks. I just checked my owner's manual. It clearly states, "both outside mirrors can be folded flat electrically." Guess I'll keep searching for a cure.

Both mirrors do fold, at least on the 02 3.0 models.

Guess I jsut don't get the point. Because of the shape of the mirrors, when you fold them, you're only narrowing your car by maybe an inch or so...if you're parking in a situation where thats going to have a significant impact on your car getting hit or not you probably ought to think about parking your $30k+ car somewhere else.

Not a big city dweller so I'm sure I'm never going to get it.

Check all the simple electrical stuff...fuse maybe, but I'd be really surprised if the mirrors use two different fuses. Its more likely that you either have a bad electrical connection on the plug or the fold motor on that side is burned out. You mgiht be able to test that by removing both mirrors and swapping sides (not sure if the connectors are compatible or if they're keyed to keep you from doing this). Then you'll know for sure if that mirror's motor is bad or if you have a wirinig problem.

I bet its just a burned out motor though.

Both mirrors are on the same fuse, and it's good. I may check out the connectors at some point. But if it's a bad motor, replacing it isn't worth the cost, particularly considering that they never need to be folded.
