Angry Please Please help A4 2.0SE petrol

Have Audi A4 petrol 51 reg (2001), car overheated on motorway, replaced water pump, oil pressure light flashes, car a little noisy sometimes, funny noise from engine when start sometimes in morning, replaced oil filter, new oil, had oil sump (pan) cleaned where tech found melted plastic bits, he said no sludge in the bottom of the sump, oil pump doesent look damaged (no Play), replaced sensor, cleaned oil pickup screen, still oil pressure light flashes. I know its very stupid of me but have been driving it for nearly 3 months with pressure light flashing, (kids at school, ill wife, no support). Someone tells me it may be the conrod bearing others say oil pump, im stuck dont know what to do, cannot afford to take to Audi. Car did get very hot on red whilst on motorway for about 40 miles. If my pump has failed would it still drive for the amount of time i have been driving, what shall i do????????

I'm not sure what to do there, I definitely hear you on not being able to afford to take it to the stealership. I haven't seen any of the 2.0SEs on this side of the pond, I wish I could help you more.

Is there a turbo in that? Or is that like the 2.0 NA Jetta motors. If it is the same motor, I have heard nothing but weird problems about them from around my area, a friend of mine had to blow-dry her spark plugs after it rained or the car wouldn't start, no other issues. Hopefully someone around here can help you!

Thanks for replying Sublime, it is a 2 litre petrol (No turbo), which maybe is the same as the 2.0 NA jetta. Check this out, the engine code is ALT which i have been told is a very odd ball engine, an oil pump for the 1.8T and 1.9TDI is £69.99 (around $130-140 i think) but for the ALT engine it comes as a unit attached to the crankshaft, can only be bought from the stealership (lol), and costs £1000 + £550 fitting + VAT (tax) @ 17.5%, i dont want to even bother working that out. Thanks anyway, appreciate it!!

Yeah that VAT is a killer, its 6% sales tax here in Vermont USA, but in the next state over (hehe, half an hour drive) there is no sales tax! They *nail* you with high property taxes in New Hampshire though, so I get to double dip (not that property taxes in Vermont are anything to scoff at).

Good luck figuring out that engine, it sure is an oddball indeed. I remember reading an article about the definitions of petrol, gas, oil, etc in different countries, you mean Gasoline by petrol right? I'm pretty sure, but it just occurred to me, and I don't know much about the offerings across the pond (After learning about the 95MPG Audi A2, I resigned myself to knowing us Americans will always get sloppy leftovers, so I decided I would be happier if I didn't know).
