Temperature Guage?

Question for you all again, on my new 2002 A4 that I just bought my temperature gauge has been acting weird at times.

There are times where it would seem to be operating and working properly. Start off all the way cold and as the car gets warm and I am driving it slowly creeps up to the middle safe temperature range.

However there are other times where sometimes it barely moves and it done on the cold portion of the guage. Like only move 1/4" or so. This is even in 60-70 degree weather. But then after I get out of the car and get back in from someplace it is working normal again.

Anyone have any ideas why it is doing that? I have no idea at all and not sure what could be the problem or where to look.

Thanks again.

depends on how long of a distance you're driving the car, you dont really state that so i would prefer to diagnose that away first. shorter distance + not getting into the turbo boost = long time to warm up

It varies sometimes, sometimes it is 15 minutes others it 30 minutes or an hour.
Either way I would think it would have warmed up in 15 minutes especially in 60-70 degree weather. My 08 Tahoe would warm up on my 10 minute drive to work in 30 degree weather.
It just seems inconsistent and was not sure. That is the only reason why I ask.

Thanks will have to look into it a little bit more.
