Tranmission Inquiry
Well I'm getting a little worried...I bought this 2004 A4 automatic in respect that my wife will take the car but I fell in love with it and started to mod it. Now my question is extactly how much of a beating can a 2004 A4 Quattro auto tiptronic tranny with 68k miles on it take? I heard from other sources that it can only take 300 ft/lbs of torque. Is there even a CVT in this thing I heard that can complicate things too. I am planning to buy a GTRS Eliminator or the upgraded 2871r Eliminator, however, I am hesitant because a lot of poeple with CVT or the tip tranny had problems. Sorry to re-thread about this CVT or tip tranny deal...but I couldn't find the other thread.

The cvt is in the fwd version. They say that 300 is the max on the auto, and they're expensive to fix.

oh ok so CVT isn't in the quattro? am i good to go 300+ hp or torque?

At your own risk!

An eliminator kit with a mild tune should work out.

It will handle upwards of 250 lb/tq. The worse thing is that the auto tranny is a HP robber... you will have ~30% drivetrains loss. Anywhere near 300hp/tq look into a new VB upgrade and a TC

im sorry but acronyms make me cringe i know TC has to be torque converter but whats VB lol
|
VB=Valve Body. Its internal in the transmission.

Isn't mike@DTH running original drivetrain? Is there a difference between his tip tranny (b5) versus the B6's tip?
