Hi, I am looking into purchasing a auto 2003 Audi A4 1.8t for $5500 clean title. It has a new engine, new turbo, new battery, new belts and hoses, new ignition, new radiator, motor mounts, brake pads, 8k miles on new engine, 64k total milage. He has receipts for everything. The old engine seized due to clogged oil strainer.

Is there certain things/defects/maintenance issues I should look for? What are the chances that the new engine will seize again?

Hey Whokidd, just saw your post. So I want to tell you my little story lol. I have an 04 A4 1.8t. It had 73k to start, now im at 79. My oil pressure regulator failed first. Then comes my transmission control module, which is about a $2600 fix. Then goes the coolant flange and oil leaks, theres another couple grand. So I'd really think about if you want it. Also a timing belt and water pump replacement at 75k.

 

take it to an audi dealer for a diagnosis, worth the $.

If everything checks out that is dirt cheap, but something smells fishy about it. Too good to be true. He may have receipts but I would be leery as some of those repairs are beyond a simple sludge issue. New Radiator? New Ignition?

+1 on make sure you get it checked out by a qualified Audi technician before going any farther.

Odds of that new engine seizing or sludging are completely up to you. Use proper synthetic oil and don't go more than 4-5,000 miles between changes and you will be fine.
